Brighton Hill Parent Teacher Association Chairman’s Report 2014-2015

This report reflects the work of the Brighton Hill Community School Association known as the Brighton Hill Parent Teacher Association (BHPTA) in the last academic year 2014-2015.

We are a group of parents and teachers who volunteer our time to raise funds to enrich the experience of the students at Brighton Hill Community School. Funding is available to various projects run by the school through an application process. Allocation of funds is then decided democratically by the committee members of the BHPTA.
This year has been a matter of transition for the BHPTA, as we lost a number of established members of the BHPTA as their children were in Year 11, some of who held key roles. Therefore it was understood this year would focus on the experienced members handing over to the new ones, in order to build a strong foundation which the PTA could then develop from.

During this transitional period fundraising efforts were limited to serving refreshments and holding raffles at school performances and the Year 11 Leaver’s Ball. The Leaver’s Ball is largest event that the BHPTA organises and was held in July at Oakley Hall. This is one of the highlights of the school year and was a great success again this year. Thank you to all who volunteered, your help is much appreciated. The Treasurers report will have more details on how much the BHPTA in total raised.

The only funding request received this year was from the Drama Department for their production of Oliver! The BHPTA was able to donate £800, this paid towards their costumes and paid for 6 microphones, including the licensing fee. It was a real pleasure witnessing the funds raised being put to good use and contribute to such a wonderful performance. On behalf of the PTA, a massive well done to all the students and teachers involved.

A special thank you is given to Debbie Loveridge, Sue Burke and Wendy Kersley who organised such events like Year 11 Leaver’s Ball and whose hard work and dedication have achieved exactly what the BHPTA aims to do, enrich the school experience for students. I wish you all the best for the future.

Thank you to Mr Currie, and to all of the Brighton Hill teaching and support staff for their continued support over the year.

Thank you to all the BHPTA committee members who have worked hard through the year to try and keep the team running and continue all the work as committee members leave. We are still looking for members and helpers to join our friendly team and find innovative ways to raise funds.

Sara Preston
BHPTA Chairman, October 2015
