Dear Parent / Carer

Welcome to the 2017/18 academic year at Brighton Hill Community School.  We are all looking forward to another successful year.  Instrumental in achieving this goal is your continued support in making sure your child maintains a consistently high attendance in school.

I am taking this opportunity to remind all parents and carers about the importance of attendance at school.  Attendance has a critical impact on the progress that students can make.  This year we will be using the following language in school with students to keep them mindful of how their attendance effort impacts on their progress:

Green Group:  Expected attendance (96% - 100% attendance)
Yellow Group: Risk of underachievement (92% - 95.9% attendance)
Amber Group: Serious risk of under-achievement (85% - 91.9% attendance)
Pink Group:    Severe risk of under-achievement (75% - 84.9% persistent absence)
Red Group:  Extreme risk of under-achievement (0% - 74.9% persistent absence)

Along with regular attendance reviews in school between students and tutors, our Heads of Year will regularly review attendance figures.  Parents / carers of children who have fallen out of the Green Group will receive a letter to keep them informed of this.  Any student falling out of the green group will be carefully monitored and support will be offered where appropriate.

Heads of Year

Thank you for taking time to read this letter and most importantly thank you for supporting your child to be the best they can be.  Should you require further information on our attendance policy, a copy can be found on the school website.

Yours faithfully
